The Welder role is vital to delivering high-quality outcomes that meet customer satisfaction within set deadlines. The primary objective of this position is to skillfully fabricate and adjust metal parts, operate and upkeep machinery and apply knowledge of technical shop mathematics, metal characteristics, layout planning and welding techniques to fulfill work assignments accurately and efficiently.
The Welder is under the supervision of the shop Foreman, with whom they will communicate regularly regarding welding processes, techniques and specific project needs.
Cooperation with both the foreman and other management staff is expected to ensure adherence to job specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Tool and Equipment Maintenance
- Perform regular cleaning and inspections of tools and equipment.
- Identify defects and undertake necessary repairs or maintenance.
Measurements and Markings
- Measure and mark materials precisely to ensure adherence to project specifications.
Blueprint and Work Order Interpretation
- Accurately follow blueprints, drawings and work orders to ensure all welding tasks meet the required specifications.
General Welding
Execute a variety of welding tasks, ensuring quality and precision.
Additional Metalwork
- Perform grinding and carbiding as required for specific projects.
Shop Maintenance
- Assist with general shop clean-up to maintain a safe and organized work environment.
Documentation
- Record labor, materials and supplies used for each job for future reference and inventory purposes.
Hand Tools Requirement
- Maintain basic measuring and hand tools necessary for job completion.
Lifting Equipment Operation
- Safely operate lifting equipment following all safety guidelines.
Adherence to Safety Standards
- Comply with all workplace safety procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe work environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Mechanical Aptitude:
Possess a strong understanding of mechanical principles and operations necessary for welding tasks. - Blueprint Reading:
Ability to read, interpret and implement blueprints accurately. - Independence and Initiative:
Capable of working with minimal supervision, demonstrating a high degree of self-direction. - Mathematics Proficiency:
Advanced skills in shop mathematics, crucial for accurate measurements and calculations. - Flexible Availability:
Willing to work outside of standard hours including evenings and weekends, as required to meet project deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
Welding Experience:
A minimum of four years in the welding field is mandatory for this role.
