Job Summary

The Tooling Service Call Technician role is pivotal within ABC Technologies’ manufacturing plant, specializing in injection mold production. The technician’s primary responsibility is to manage the maintenance, repair and overall performance of essential manufacturing tools, including molds, jigs, fixtures and other equipment. By ensuring that these tools function at peak performance, the tooling technician contributes significantly to production efficiency and overall quality.

Key Responsibilities

While primary duties are outlined below, other relevant tasks may be requested by supervisors:

  1. Tool Maintenance and Repair
  • Conduct thorough inspections of tools and equipment, identifying issues such as wear, damage or malfunctions.
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal operation, addressing problems proactively.
  1. Tool Setup and Calibration
  • Facilitate the setup of tools and equipment for production runs, calibrating them to ensure parts meet specified tolerances.
  • Inspect and verify the accuracy of new tools, adhering to company standards for quality and precision.
  1. Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose tool-related issues during production, implementing effective solutions to reduce downtime and ensure continuity.
  1. Fabrication and Modification
  • Adjust existing tools or fabricate new ones tailored to specific production requirements, utilizing materials and equipment such as lathes, mills and grinders.
  1. Documentation and Records
  • Maintain detailed records covering maintenance activities, tool usage and repairs, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
  • Document procedures in compliance with TS16949 standards, including managing Mold Tag Systems, Mold Storage Standards and other relevant protocols.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Educational Background

  • Minimum educational requirement: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Additional certifications or diplomas from technical/vocational schools in fields like machining, tool and die making, mold making or mechanical engineering are preferred.

Professional Experience

  • Preferred experience includes knowledge in 2-shot tooling, Class A polishing, lighting tools and relevant processing expertise.

Travel Requirements

  • Possess a valid passport and ability to obtain a U.S. work visa (sponsored by WTTC).
  • Availability for short-notice, extended travel internationally. When not traveling, the position supports the Windsor Tooling Technical Center.

Technical Expertise

  • Competency with machining tools (lathes, mills, grinders, CNC machines).
  • Familiarity with tooling principles, materials and procedures.
  • Ideal candidates have 3-5 years of experience in tool and die repair.

Mechanical Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing tools and equipment.
  • Competence in operating a milling machine, lathe, band saw and other machinery within the tool shop.

Blueprint Literacy

  • Ability to interpret and work with technical drawings, blueprints and schematics.
